Thoughts on LeRoy Neiman Badly Organized into a Loud and Accidentally Beautiful Composition:

so many things about this artist and this particular painting of Sylvester Stallone as Rocky 

are hilarious and evocative to me

it’s a viscous level of camp and slop and schmaltz

all handled with the subtlety of a crocodile eating a fig newton

well if ever there was a time to paint with your mustache

a hero shot of Rocky is that time

I enjoy it though

In some phase of my life 

i could outright dismiss this sensation as my ape mind squealing

similar to the joy of sneezing, nose picking, or other actions involving other holes… (i.e. cue tip, buttocks, etc)

also i know it’s smarter here to site cy twombly if i’m after the paint as caveman barbarian tribal feces flinging primal ooze crescendo thing

because at least that limbic thrashing had subtlety and design and scale

or go british and pretend to hate george baselitz through my teeth

or if i really need some clarity to my figures and representation then how about mention a real psychological wizard of the schmear like chaim soutine

or i could raise a drunken boner to DeKooning and apologize to all the ladies out there

sorry ladies

but that’s old sauce- the most ‘badass painters’ alive today are mostly women anyhow. RIP Lucien :’ ( 

Rossen Crow, Dana Schutz, Natalie Frank, Jenny Saville, Trudy Benson… send me more i love this stuff wow

i don’t think any of them would paint Venus Williams scorching a backhand down the line tho
